       Trophies:

Annual Merit Awards

The three awards below are awarded by the Club's Executive Committee at the banquet of the Club which marks the end of the Toastmasters International year, towards the end of June each year.

Most Improved Speaker:

The McGowan “Key to Success” Trophy was donated by: Ivan G McGowan, Area Governor A5, District 72, New Zealand 1976.

The Most Improved Speaker Award is for the member who has made the most progress as a speaker during the year.
Chairman of the Year:

Most able Chairman of the Year "Pieter Voster Trophy".

The Chairman of the Year Award is for the member who has led sessions in an exemplary manner - not only business sessions but others as well, such as the prepared and impromptu speaking sessions.
Toastmaster of the Year:

The Toastmaster of the Year Award goes to the member of the club who has done good work in promoting the club. This award does not normally go to the member who has won major speaking awards at Toastsmasters SA level during the year - the awards for that are reward enough.

Speech Contest Awards

The Club also has four annual awards, for the four annual speech contests. The winners of these awards at club level go on to take part in the Area A3 Contest; the winner of that contest goes on to take part in the Division A Contest; and the winner of that contest goes on to take part in the District 74 contest.

Three of these contests are held at club level in February - March of each year, culminating in the District Contest, during the annual District Conference held at a different centre in May of each year.

Evaluation Contest:

In the Evaluation Contest, the contestants present 2-3 minute evaluations of a demonstration speech. They are judged on their observation of the speaker's strong and weak points and the manner in which they present an evaluation which is helpful to the speaker. The contest is held at club level in February - March of each year, culminating in the District Contest during the annual District Conference held at a different centre in May of each year.
Impromptu Speech Contest:

The Impromptu Speech Contest consists of a 1-2 minute speech, on a subject presented to the speaker as he is called upon to speak. The contest is held at club level in February - March of each year, culminating in the District Contest during the annual District Conference held at a different centre in May of each year.
International Speech Contest:

The International Speech Contest consists of a 5-7 minute English prepared speech. The winner of this contest at District 74 level goes on to represent District 74 (Southern Africa) in the international run-off contest in the USA in August each year. The winner of the run-off contest goes on to take part in the International Contest a day or two later.
Humorous Speech Contest:

The Humorous Speech Contest is held at club level in August - September of each year, culminating in the District Contest during the annual District Mini-Conference held at a different centre in October of each year.
